Preserving Oregon History
Project: Restoration of the historic 1885 Barlow Mansion, located between Canby and Aurora on 99E
Client: Jeff and Amy Falconer
The Story of the Barlow Mansion . . .
Historic restoration does not get more painstaking. Consider the plumbing: The homeowners shopped eBay until they had filled a large room with vintage J.L. Mott plumbing parts, the same brand that went into the White House.
We then spent thousands on having the parts rebuilt back East, and thousands more nickel-plating the roomful of authentic valves and pipes.
The earthenware bathtub alone was worth $40,000 before we had it patched, re-porcelained, and added a hand-painted design. A wooden toilet seat cost $800 and a wooden toilet tank took weeks to rebuild.
Finally, Phil the plumber worked tirelessly to put the old pipes and parts together, finally completing this extensive restoration project.
