The 1913 Arts & Crafts Home
Project: Turning a sagging eyesore into a classic home.
Client: Chip Rosenfelt and Sara Reed
The Story of the Flanders Arts & Crafts
Chip Rosenfelt knows quality. After attending open houses to see our homes in Irvington and Sellwood, Chip knew he wanted McCulloch Construction to remodel his future home. John McCulloch became part of Chip's buying process and went with him to look at many perspective homes. Though Chip and Sara weren't handymen, they bravely decided on a total fixer-upper in Laurelhurst: a 1913 Arts and Crafts (built for Louis and Katie Sedgast).
Before construction began, the interior of the house was sagging into the basement, had heavy "orange peel" plaster work and had a kitchen that defied understanding with two small vessel-sinks – and the requisite plumbing – oddly mounted to a small table in the middle of the room. McCulloch Construction fixed the sinking floors, reshaped the trim and plaster to a more handsome and period-correct look and reworked every surface.
