Greek Revival Style
Greek revival architecture (or neoclassical) celebrates Western Civilization's origins by borrowing from ancient Greek monuments. With many of its aesthetic elements in use since 500 BCE, this style bestows a stately sense of tradition to homes and public buildings. The White House, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Capitol Building and – more locally – the Portland Art Museum are all classic examples of Greek revival architecture.
Typical of the style are abundant pediments, Greek-style columns, an entry door surrounded by a rectangular transom and lights, elements of symmetry, emphasized cornices with wide-banded trim and a low pitched roof.
This marvelous Greek revival home was designed, built and sold in 2010 by McCulloch Construction.
